India Population 2025: Growth Trends from 1960 to 2025.
Population of India in 2025 is estimated to reach 1.45 billion therefore making it the most populous country in the world, surpassing China, which is projected to have 1.41 billion people. India’s rapid population growth in the second half of the 20th century was driven by improved healthcare, lower infant mortality rates, and increased life expectancy.
There has been a shift from rural to urban areas as people move to cities for better employment and educational opportunities and lifestyles, better business environment . This urbanization has added stress on city infrastructures but is also driving economic growth in urban areas. India’s Population will continue to rise for upcoming years.

- 1996-2019: Growth slowed to between 1-2% annually.
- 2020: For the first time, India’s population growth rate fell below 1%.

- 2025: India’s population is projected to reach 1.45 billion, making it the most populous country in the world.

Future Projection
According to the United Nations, India’s population is projected to reach 1.5 billion by 2030 and 1.6 billion by 2040. The population is expected to peak at 1.7 billion around 2060, after which it will begin to decline and will reach till 1.5 billion by 2100.
